A great photo finish for a shy rescue greyhound
For all rescue pets listed for adoption online, their profile photo is the key to winning hearts and finding a loving forever home. And we were so thrilled to find out that the professional photoshoot arranged for shy girl, Evie, was the beginning of a happy new life for her.
In May 2017, Evie from Greyhound Rescue Victoria was nominated to take part in The Adoptables - a PetRescue program dedicated to giving senior pets, special needs pets and shy pets like Evie - who find it harder than most to find love - the extra help they need to get happily adopted.
The team at PetRescue worked with Greyhound Rescue Victoria to organise a free professional photoshoot for Evie, hoping to give her a better chance of winning hearts. And it worked out perfectly when adopter Liz saw Evie’s adorable face pop up online.
“I’d been pet sitting my friend’s rescue greyhound, and she was so sweet. I loved spending time with her, so I decided to rescue a greyhound of my own. I wanted to rescue a small black female greyhound, as I once heard that black greyhounds find it harder to get adopted,” says Liz. “I saw Evie listed with Greyhound Rescue Victoria, and her photo was so cute!”
A huge thank you goes out to Nat for her time, love and talent in taking these beautiful photos and ultimately helping Evie find her forever home.
Liz’s enquiry about Evie soon lead to a meet and greet at the foster carer’s home. “When I first met Evie, she was super shy. She’d even been on anti-anxiety medication, which made me feel really sad for her, and I knew I had the chance to change Evie’s life for the better.”
Not long after, Evie was on her way to start a new life with Liz. “On arriving home, Evie and I went for walk. I could feel she’d begun to relax already. I felt very glad that I was able to rescue her and care for her,” recalls Liz.
The love that Liz has shown Evie every day has quickly transformed this once shy and timid greyhound. “The first time we took her to a dog-friendly beach was very satisfying. To see her run and be so filled with joy,” says Liz. “It’s insane how much she’s changed. She’s so much more relaxed, happy and funny. And I love it when she sits next to me just like a human, sitting on her behind with her legs stretched out!”
What started with a photo that won Liz’s heart has blossomed into a beautiful connection. Nowadays, Evie and Liz’s bond continues to grow stronger with each passing day. “I love how excited Evie is to see me when I get home,” says Liz. “Adoption is good for the soul. It makes me feel very happy. Evie is awesome!”
