About Weary
Introducing WEARY, a Staffy/Cattle Dog mix born on 14 September 2022. He has a stumpy tail and an athletic build.
WEARY takes his name from Colonel Sir (Ernest) Edward “Weary” Dunlop, an Australian surgeon who saved countless sick and dying prisoners of war in Thailand during WWII.
Like his namesake, our Weary has a big heart and he'll do anything for the people he loves, which is why we think he'd make a great companion or guardian dog. Being a powerful boy who forms very strong bonds, he's not suited to the novice dog lover or to homes that have lots of people (and other dogs) coming and going.
He’s a very loyal and obedient boy and has excellent recall. Wherever his human is, that's where he wants to be. Innately protective of his family, Weary will sound the bark alarm if a stranger comes to his home. He will also bark with joy in backyard play, but is otherwise a quiet dog.
Weary loves humans, especially those he knows, but he will protect his home-turf from all intruders, whether they're human or canine.
Although he loves having his favourite human around him, he's content to sleep the day away on the front deck if his family is out for the day.
He walks nicely on a lead, but being a country boy, he's had no experience with dog parks and suburban walking trails, although he's spent plenty of time off-leash in a large local park with his foster carer.
Although he has lived with other dogs, he's better suited to life as an only dog. Once he's bonded with you - which takes all of 10 minutes - he's protective and does not want to share the love.
He is house-trained and accustomed to being an inside-outside dog.
As always, secure fencing is essential.
If you are interested in meeting Weary and can offer him a suitable, safe and loving forever home, PLEASE COMPLETE THE ONLINE ADOPTION APPLICATION at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ and one of our volunteers will be in touch.
His adoption fee is $350. He's vaccinated, microchipped and desexed.
